Itinerary description

This is the second time that we have done this trip to hike on Ireland´s Eye. We were accompanied by younger members of the family from Dublin, but in particular with our nephews Joseph and Gerard from Wicklow. We went in our own Zodiac from Howth Harbour in North Dublin (however, there is a paid launch service from the harbour to the Island). There is little scope to walk on the island, but the wild vegetation and views make it a very interesting and worthwhile walk. There is a Martello Tower and the ruins of St Nessan's church which add interest to the walk. The Island is populated with many types of sea birds and in particular the the Puffins. Peregrine Falcons have a long history of breeding on Ireland's Eye, while the number of Puffins has decreased in recent years.
A surprisingly interesting walk, worth the effort of taking the boat to the Island.
