Itinerary description
This walk starts from the car park below the entrance to Avakas Gorge and then follows winding trails up the western side of the gorge before heading up on dirt tracks to the lower part of Ineia village.
From there, it goes downhill on very quiet roads to Lara Bay and along the coast back to your start point.
The first half of the route is mostly up hill, and quite steep in places. The tracks are often rough and are muddy in winter, but still quite easy to navigate. Some sections are little more than animal tracks.
Look out for free-ranging goats and pigs which are very common in this area.
The rest of the trail is pretty much downhill and easy going.
There is no food or water on the route, so be prepared. Phone coverage is not all that great, either, so it's probably a good idea to carry a first-aid kit.
The route was quite muddy in places in February when I did it. There were also some free-flowing rivers to negotiate, although they were very shallow and easy to cross. However, in warmer months, it'll be dry as a bone and there is very little shade, so a hat/sunscreen is recommended.
All in all, this is a great walk with some awesome views of the Akamas Peninsula!
