Itinerary description
Part of a system of trails including some parts along the Transcanada trail system. Parking is available at the start point. It is a multi-use trail, for hiking, mountain bikes and horses. The trail is well maintained, has minor elevation changes and contains lots of different trails, trail markers, map posts and waypoints. Due to the size (over 1,500 hectares) and the complexity (numerous trails and intersections as well as several closed sections) a map and map reading skills are required to stay on course. Picture 1 shows the map taken from the signpost next to the parking lot (also the start point). I included several numbered waypoints that match the waypoint numbers on the map and the sign posts on the trail.
The tract features some diversity typical of the area. There are large stands of red pines in meticulous rows (planted mid 1900's to stop soil erosion) mixed natural stands of conifers and deciduous as well as some sections of mature forest including an impressive stand made up almost entirely of maple trees. Bordered by some farms, residences it contains numerous birds and small wildlife, but oddly no streams were visible.
