Itinerary description
I first heard about this trail when RetiredInNH posted the trail (Thanks!). We've driven by Mirror lake and Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest many times so this was the push to get us to take a look.
The trail head is about 2.8 miles off of Rt 3. When you see the junction of WEIR RD and HUBBARD BROOK RD, park your car.
The trail is called the Weasel Trail; why you might ask? Well take a look at http://www.hubbardbrook.org/w6_tour/w6-frame.htm and see what an Army ATV looked like back in the late 50's.
If you do the hike, you'll see lots of equipment in the forest and and several Wiers. Ok, so now you know what a Weasel is but what the heck is a Weir (I didn't know!) - see http://www.hubbardbrook.org/w6_tour/weir-stop/stop-1.htm
There are several "side trails" that the people use to check equipment, you do need to be a little careful and not get off on a side trail (unless you want to). The initial part of the trail is all up and then you gradually descend and end up back on the dirt road with a short walk back to your car if you were able to drive into the trail head.
The day we did this it was very overcast and we walked in the mist / cluds so we didn't see much other than the woods and the trail itself.
