Itinerary description

Via di Francesco - Way of St. Francis
Badia Prataglia to Santuario della Verna, 18 km with a total ascent of 1257 meters and a total descent of 1015 meters. Beautiful challenging walk, the rain predicted held off until after our arrival at Santuario della Verna. Mixed sun and clouds with a cooling breeze on the long ascents. Ristorante Pizzeria Vallesanta in Rimbocchi was open, so we stopped in for an espresso before the final climb to La Verna. We took off our shoes and socks to wade the small stream just as leaving Rimbocchi. The water was refreshing. Don’t lose heart on the steep ascent, once beyond Strada Provinciale Alto Corsalone the ascent eases and you enter a fairy garden of moss-covered boulders. A gentle climb through the boulder strewn beech forest and we arrived at the monastery of Santuario della Verna. We have completed the first leg of our trip from Firenze to Rome!
We toured the monastery and walked 600 meters downhill to our lodging at Albergo Ristorante La Verna. Another amazing day on the trail.
