Itinerary description
Our lovely driver with Footpaths of the World dropped us off at the East Portal Gaye. Start off by going through the gate towards the reservoir- skirt the reservoir and take the trail up at the far end. The trail climbs steeply as you enter the forest and then levels off for a pleasant walk next to the creek. This area has lots of campsites and the possibility of seeing moose! The climb is steady. You will make a uturn and continue the steady climb up to Storm Pass. There is a meadow about three quarters of a mile before the pass that is a good option to have a picnic. At the pass, you have the option to climb Estes Cone. Be aware of the weather as you would be exposed at the peak. Cairns are stacked to mark the best path up this unmarked trail. Once you come back to the crossroads, descend on the relatively new path to Lily Lake. The Baldpate Inn is across highway 7 down a gravel road.
