Capetown is a beautiful city nestling on the Bay to the west of the Cape of Good Hope in the shadow of the iconic Table Mountain. We are in Africa but you can't see it, wide avenues, a splendid seafront, precious villas overlooking the sea. Since the birth of democracy in 1994, the city has evolved rapidly and the 2010 World Cup has given further acceleration. As logical, there is no real historic center and, once you have seen the Waterfront, the most interesting rise to visit on foot is the Bo Kaap district, famous for its colorful houses. This itinerary winds along these sloping cobbled streets to then end further downstream with the public buildings.
The Bo Kaap neighborhood was born at the time of slavery to house Malaysian immigrants, then Asians in general, and when, after the mid-1800s, the inhabitants finally obtained their freedom, to contest the racist white they started coloring the houses, ending up making it so characteristic.
The neighborhood winds around Chiappini Street, is inhabited mainly by Muslims and is full of mosques. At the same time it has become an icon of the new Cape Town ending up being more photographed than the glittering new Waterfront.
You can start from any point, the beauty is strolling up and down the hills at the foot of Signal Hill, walking all the way down Chiappini Street (I couldn't find the reason for the name...) and then getting off for a tour of the city of power, from the Court of Justice to Parliament
