Hike up one of the crests of Waimea Canyon.
You can park around 8:30 without problems in the Waimea Canyon Trail Parking Slot, it's 10usd per car plus 5usd per person.
Directly from the car park there are 2 lookouts. The one on the far right to see the Forbidden Island of Hawai'i: Ni'ihau. And the one in the center to see the first views of the canyon, the Pu'u Hinahina Lookout.
Once the obligatory photos have been taken, we now start the Waimea Canyon Trail, from the bottom of the parking lot.
The trek begins descending with a slight ascent upon reaching the bottom of a mini valley filled with fruit trees.
At the first intersection we turn briefly to the right to do the Cliff Trail Lookout, from where you can also see where we will pass next (spoiler alert).
Back on the main road, we continue downhill slightly until the 2nd intersection. That way to the left is where we'll come back, but first we take the trail to the right to complete the Waipo'o Falls Trail.
The Waipo'o Falls Trail continues with dips and small climbs until you reach the cliff that we saw from the Cliff Trail Lookout, from where you have the best views of the Canyon. However, the best is yet to come.
Keep going down the cliff (watch out for slips) and take the trail down to your right hand side to do the Waipo'o Stream's 2 waterfall mini loop.
The 1st of them is without a doubt the most beautiful. An idyllic place to stop for a sandwich, with spectacular views of the Waimea Canyon, the Waipo'o Falls where you can take a bath in one of its mini pools, or a shower under the waterfall if you prefer, or both better !!! With mountain goats at the bottom of the valley, and mini "lobsters" in the pools of water. SPECTACULAR!!
After relaxing and meditating at the 1st waterfall of the Waipo'o Falls, we complete the mini loop visiting the 2nd, higher, but with worse views and cloudier water, although you can also swim here if you want.
On the way back we return to the 2nd intersection to continue along the Black Pipe Trail and complete the 2nd loop (somewhat longer) that will take us back to the main path (a little before the 1st intersection), to return to the Parking Slot.
*** RECOMMENDATIONS ***
Start early to avoid crowds, it is a very busy route.
Wear suitable footwear because the road is very slippery, especially wet (and it can be simply with the humidity of the dew).
DON'T FORGET YOUR SWIMSUIT AND A TOWEL.
Go first to the waterfall with views, do a miniloop counterclockwise, going down to the right. Many people go first to the 2nd, and only discover the 1st almost by chance!
