Itinerary description
Aiming to beat the heat, we decided to do this hike first thing Saturday morning - plus we had to make it to our midday cruise check in (hard life!).
My husband had been encouraging us to climb up and down the stairs to our 34th floor hotel room since our arrival on the Wednesday, so the actual climb up to Diamond Head look out wasn't too daunting. We also climbed back up the hotel stairs on our return!
After the initial concreted path near the information area/ souvenir shop it can get quite rugged in areas, but always had a hand rail.
Near the top, you go through a tunnel, we turned left, which led to outdoor steps going up to the viewing area.
At the top you have the option of going back the same way, or squeezing into a viewing tower and going down the staircase to another tunnel out - which joins the main trail. (where we turned left). So, I guess you could do this in reverse, as I don't recall signs saying you had to go left...
