Itinerary description
Wadi Lajab
Wadi Lajab (وادي لجب) is located near Jabal Al-Qahar (Jabal al Qahr, جبل القهر). It is a part of the Saudi Tihamah (تِهَامَةُ ) valleys of the Al-Raith mountains. It starts as a wide wadi in the north and gradually narrows down till it forks to the eastern and southern branches. The southern branch is used by offroading cars to reach the forking point where this hile starts. The steep sides of the wadi are covered by thick moss, which makes it look like a hanging garden. Wadi Lajab has a never-ending supply of fresh water.
Trail
It is a truly breathtaking hike in a tall wadi with a lot of water pools and hanging trees on the sides of the wadi. Starting from the forking point P-01 we explored the eastern branch first. It has many deep pools up to your waist. It is about 6 km in total to visit both branches.
Difficulty
It is a moderate hike. You will climb some boulders, and pass water pools. No trail, but you just walk in a wadi. The only risky point is a huge boulder with a rope P-05. Do not climb it if you are not sure you can climb down.
Parking
While driving on 158 highway take exit at 17.591050, 42.927621. After that, you will drive in a narrow canyon for about 2 km. We had 4x4, but I believe AWD can do it. We parked 17.603442, 42.933223 at P-01. If you drive a sedan car, you can park near a grocery store 17.591831, 42.927354 and walk about 2 km extra to the trailhead.
Gear
1) water 2L,
2) canyoning shoes or old sneakers that you are ready to throw away,
3) swimwear like shorts or tight gym clothing
4) extra clothing to change after hiking
