Itinerary description

Wadi Hoqain in Oman is approx 1.20mins drive from centre of Muscat.

You can park on the side of the road and drop down into the canyon easily. Once you drop down head to the left and you’ll see a big water pool. This is the start of the pools.

From there on you will need to hike across the rocks and through the canyon as well as swim or wade through the water pools. Take a waterproood bag with you or leave your stuff in the car / on one of the banks so that you can swim freely.

You can wear your trainers into the water if you’re happy to get them wet or take water/reef shoes with you. I took my trainers off and put them into my waterproof bag so I could put them back on further into the wadi as some of the rocks are abit sharp and slippery to walk on.

Some pools you can was through and others you’ll need to swim. Make sure you’re a strong swimmer and your whole group will be safe if trying this hike&swim. When I was there there was about 5 other people so it’s relatively quiet if you were to need assistance for any reason.

Make sure to be out of the wadi and water before sunset. It’s dangerous to be far into the canyon at night as there’s no light so you won’t be able to find your way back out.

We swam/hikes inside for 45mins then took the same way back. Suunto watch said 3km in total and took 1 hour 20 mins so think this wikiloc distance recorded wrongly.

It’s very shaded once inside the canyon so during summer it’s not that hot, especially if you’re in the water.

Stay safe and enjoy
