Itinerary description
Easy to follow trail but physically, a demanding hike that needs practically the whole day.
Would recommend at least 3-4L water (we consumed a bit less as the temperature was just around 10-12 Deg C. We also carried breakfast and lunch with some light snacks and fruits knowing we'll easily spend 8-10 hrs trekking.
The climb starts right besides the dam through stairs. This is not a technical but there is very little leveled walking, most of the time you will be climbing up the steps or or small boulders. Depending on individual fitness it may be moderate to difficult but NOT TO BE UNDERESTIMATED.
There are two ways of doing this hike a. either do complete trail and return to the car park like we did or b. hike up to the plateau i.e. Ghaf Summit about 8+kms and park some cars at the top of Jebel Jais. For option b., you may have to walk about a km from Ghaf summit towards car park.
On our way up we did a detour by following green arrows sprayed on rocks, those lead to the mountain village. This made it more adventurous and slightly longer. the other option is to follow the original trail with the brown signs placed after almost every km. On our way back we followed the official trail. If you follow this map, you may add up about 2.5kms. This isn't showing due to phone battery issue.
The trail although marked, is with lots of loose rocks which makes it a killer for knees during descend. On the way, there are lots of benches to rest and exactly at 4km a beautiful plateau for resting or perhaps even a good option to camp overnight.
Last but not the least, don't over estimate yourself. Mountains are mightier that us.
Enjoy the trek and stay safe!
