Itinerary description
You can park the car on the main road near the bridge area. We started the hike from Abu Mizen regione.
From the start you will be gaining elevation.
On your way, there if couple of extentions that you may take as extra. For example after a couple of km from the starting point, you can follow the signs and go to your left heading directly to the river (an old wooden bridge, old houses and Church of Saint Peter and Paul). An amazing area to rest and recharge.
After around 4k from the start, you will notice an old stone bridge with the leftovers of an old mill right on the riverside. From there you can cross the bridge to you left and go to Feytroun village or continue to your right to reach Kfardebian village.
I can assure your that the ascent to Kfardebian is not too easy if it is hot with a strong sun.
When you reach Kfardebian, you have to walk a little bit on the tarmac road before shifting to your right into the agriculture area (you will pass by a cow farm).
Following this trail will get you to another part of Nahr El Kaleb (River), then Bekaatet Kanaan Village, Mar Abda Monastry and finally to Bekaatet Kanaan's dam (it was still under construction).
From Deir Zeraya heading to the starting point, make sure to walk on the trail marked with the blue marks. This part is difficult, especially for hikers with limited skills. We lost the track many times, as it was that frequently used and for sure it needs to be maintained.
The last 4 or 5 km from the end are not too obvious. Stay on the trail marked in blue (even if you will be forced to leave the trail that I did). I tried to leave the trail to seek better and fast shortcuts but it was very tough and difficult to make it (there was an old track but not maintained at all, bushes all over the place hiding 80 or 90% of it).
As much as I like this area... As much as I found it demanding and difficult. The last 5km section is not recommended for kids, families or hikers that are not looking for a tough terrain.
Keep nature clean!
