If one wonders how big the island of Malé in the Maldives is, nothing better than to go around it on foot and measure it. I got a distance of 5.8 km. It is not bad if we think that almost 200 thousand people live within that circumference and that it is also the highest density of inhabitants in the world.
The route had to be done late in the afternoon, because the sun, at noon, beats down. So, at about 5 o'clock in the afternoon I start the route, in a clockwise direction. You have to go lightly, so that it doesn't get dark (night photos don't turn out very well for me...).
It passes through different areas of the city. We start at the Maritime station, then we arrive at the bridge that connects Malé with the island where the airport is. Further on we pass by a kind of seawater pools to which a step has been placed. We continue on our way and pass through a commercial port where the tsunami monument is located (apparently, it seriously affected the Maldives). A little further on we come to an artificial white sand beach, closed to the sea, where a large number of locals come to watch the sunset. The truth is that it is a quite beautiful area. Following the avenue that surrounds the island, we will pass next to the fishing pier where we see a great deal of activity and immediately reach the fish market. Given the time it is, the market appeared clean of fish for sale (you have to see it in the morning). Immediately we arrived at the neurological center, the Plaza de la República with its gigantic flagpole and its great national flag. A few meters later we reach the starting point of the route, putting an end to it.
