Itinerary description
If you start from the cerro verde Nationalpark (entrance fee is $3), the hike starts going down to the entrance to the Santa Ana trail. There you pay the entrance fee of $6.
They only let you in with a tour guide.
from there the trail starts climbing up, first through a forest and later through a rocky landscape. The trail is well marked and technically easy. The view into the crater makes all the trouble worth it.
My recommendation: get of the bus at a place called "Tibet" and make your way from there to the park entrance. there you will have to wait for the tour which should pass at 11:15. Like this you save $3 and an unnecessary detour.
