Itinerary description
We decided to climb Volcan Corazon from its east side, from Aloasi/Machachi. This time we asked a "cooperativa" taxi to take us as high as possible on the track, and charged us USD5 (January 2015) from central Machachi. First third of the ascension is a bit steep, until a kind of a plateau that would eventually lead to the base of the last bit which is bit difficult as it is loose rocks all the last third up.
On the top there are 2 closeby small summits, being the higher the one further away.
From there we descended throught the south, where you will find very nice scrambling, with some parts exposed, but the rock is very good for this, and it is great fun.
Once you have gone down the first third, then you will find a rather flat land covered with local plants and no apparent path. Following the direction to El Chaupy, finally you will find a farm with horses (this is the closest place that could be reached by car) Then it is a matter to follow the road to the main junction of the road from Panamericana to El Chaupi, and wait for local bus.
All in all, very nice volcano, many different terrains, and the south part scrambling is a must for someone with no vertigo!
