The ascent to the 2,476m Sentinel Dome, under normal conditions, is not at all long or demanding, since it starts from the Glacier Point car park, but this summer the road access to Glacier Point is closed and you can only reach on foot, this makes the ascent of Sentinel Dome a physically demanding hike since we had to start from the bottom of Yosemite Valley, climb to Glacier Point, and then climb to the top of Sentinel Dome.
To ascend to Glacier Point we follow the Four Mille Trail, a historic trail from 1872 that climbs a strenuous slope along dozens of zigzags, but with spectacular views of both Yosemite Valley, Yosemite Falls, El Captain and the Cathedral Rock. Before reaching Glacier Point the path softens.
Glacier Point, a lookout at 2,199m high, located on a rocky outcrop that rises 980m above the Yosemite Valley floor offers unbeatable panoramas of Half Dome, Tenaya Canyon, as well as the Sierra Nevada mountains or High Sierras.
The ascent to the 2,476m Sentinel Dome is made on a wide and easy path, although the last few meters we have to climb the granite slabs that make up the Dome. From this peak we enjoyed incomparable 360° views of the park.
We return by the same route.
