Itinerary description
This is the full path through the Vikos Gorge. 15Km of great views of the canyon from the inside, below 900m cliffs... Nothing you can see or do elsewhere. It was worth "getting into shape" by doing a few shorter trails in the days before and keeping this one to the last day of our stay. We took light lunch with us for a 30min break at about 2/3 of the way. Total walking time as you can see is >6 hours (we were a family with some who walk faster than others, so the pace was about 3km/hr on the flat part, taking short breaks about every one hour).
Other than previous recordings, were GPS has gone wild, I think I got here a good, detailed and true recording of the full trail. The trail does stay however on the same (left) bank of the river at all times - anything else is a mistake. Anyhow - the trail is very clear, easy to follow and very easy to walk, apart from the starting downhill 350m into the canyon and final ascent to Vikos village (~200m). We saw a group of experienced hikers going the reverse direction, but this is uphill almost the whole way and twice the ascent at the end so it's not really symmetric...
Don't miss the visit to the Voidomatis springs which we skipped - most of the year it will be the only place where you have running water. To get there, just take RIGHT in the last marked point of this trail, where the sign shows left to Vikos village and right to Papingo. The springs are just around the corner.

Prachtige wandeling. Ver boven gemiddeld. De extra omweg naar de spring was de moeite waard: we hebben een heerlijke duik genomen on het ijskoude water.
How did you get back though?
The trail is easier this way, so from Monodendri to Vikos. There is a water mountain about 6,7km from Monodendri, so dont need to carry that much water with you.
