Itinerary description
Vieux-Thann - Waldkapelle - Camp Turenne - Molkenrain - Freundstein - Grand Ballon - La Haag - Geishouse - Moosche.
I parked at the end of the dead end in the front of the river wall. You can park there or a bit before at the playground...for free everywhere.
If good pace you go up for 2h until Molkenrain (water up there). Then you start going down to Freundstein, the castle and then up again toward the Grand Ballon summit.
I needed a bit less of 4hours to reach the summit but I have a good pace. In between you have the possibility to have breaks at several Ferme Auberge. La ferme auberge du grand ballon (40min before the summit) offers a great view.
At summit you can enjoy a wonderful view to the Vosges, Black forest, Alps if lucky but most of the time it's windy.
Afterwards you go down towards the Ferme Auberge du Haag and then towards Geishouse (but other paths available to go down)
At the end you can take the train at Moosch to get back the Thann, Vieux Thann and even Mulhouse (check time schedule first).
