Itinerary description
The "Passadiços do Mondego" runs approximately 12.5 kms (one way), connecting the village of Videmonte, to the Caldeirão Dam.
First Buy you ticket online (1 euro) to enter the walk. A limited number of people are allowed on the walk per day.
By starting at the "Estacionamento dos Passadiços em Videmonte", you are generally walking down along the banks of the Mondego River (and its tributaries), over three suspension bridges, with 7 kms of boardwalk, and 5 kms of rural tracks.
Passing impressive cliffs, waterfalls, rivers, dams and old ruined factories along the way down to the "Ponte da Mizarela" , where a nice cafe is situated.
Then with 1.5 kms left you start to go Up on the road, before the most demanding section of the climb with approximately 650 steps leading to the entrance of the walkway at the Caldeirão Dam.
Having walked across the road of the Dam, a Taxi rank can be seen at the top of the road, for a drive back to your start point if you require. Limited taxis are normally available at either end.
The walk can of course be completed in either direction.
