Itinerary description

Today's hike started a bit outside of Alba Iulia. We took a taxi about 5 kms south of the city (which we were told was quite a popular thing to do). We figured it wouldn't be pleasant to hike on the asphalt roads and streets of the city. And in addition, the city is going through a lot of construction as of this recording and so, walking on this route wouldn't have been pleasant.

After finding the dirt road on our taxi ride, we continued very leisurely through the corn fields and golden-colored hills and passing a pig pen which was a treat. But the bigger surprise was at km 5.5 where we met the reddish-pink and gorgeous rock formations of Răpa Roșie. It's lovely views of these rocks and a good ending before we entered Sebeș where we had lunch.

After that, we decided to take a taxi through the city of Sebeș as the afternoon heat was strong and wanted to avoid walking on the pavement/asphalt of this town. On the way to Pianu de Sus, it was quite straight forward, with more golden-colored hills, corn fields and the occasional shepherd dogs and sheep herds (and on top of that, the ever-presence of the afternoon heat). The only confusion here was that at km 19.7, more or less, we missed the trail going southwest that stays on top of the hill to your left. There's no marker and we went down the wrong trail. But after going up a brief slope to your immediate left, a dirt road starts which is the correct via Transilvanica trail. It's annoying as anyone can take the wrong way here so pay attention.

We then had an easy way to Pianu de Sus and on to our accommodation. It was a longer and more arduous hike due to the heat but my favorite was still the previous day's.
