Itinerary description
The highest peak of Deshat mountain chain, located southeastern part of Dibra region, Albania. The Albanian-North Macedonian (actually Albanian-Albanian :) border passes along the crest. From Tirana you go to Maqellare, which is a small town located just in the foot of Deshat mountain. From Maqellare you go to Popinare, a village where this trail starts. The road to there is short, just a couple of kilometers, but in a very bad state, so you'll absolutely need a high-clearance vehicle (as it was in January 2023).
Deshat mountain has multiple, well-defined and beautiful Peaks: Rudine, Kercin and Velivar, which is the highest of them. They can be ascended from the villages nearby (Ilnice, Rabdisht etc.)
Unfortunately the day was quite foggy and cloudy, otherwise the trail offers some amazing views of the Korab, Grama, Shebenik and other mountains. To the western you can see very clearly the mountains of between Diber and Mat regions: Deja, Lura etc.
