Itinerary description

This trail can be done as a loop. We had parked at the base of Cerro de Cubilete and walked to what I called the trailhead where I started recording so this trail is actually a loop. From Cerro de Cubilete, walk back along the main road to Guanajuato for a km or so. When you see two cellphone tower roads heading off left and right (both with yellow gates), cllimb over the gate on the left and start up the road to the cellphone towers a very short distance to the start of the trail. There are no NO TRESPASSING signs, only signs not to have fires in the Nature Preserve area. An alternative is to park and start the trail at the large gates (Ecocubilete). This is a relatively easy hike with some elevation loss and gain but a small reservoir at which to have a picnic about halfway along the hike. Other highlights include numerous birds, deer (I saw one at the Presa last time I was here), pine forests, great views up the final ridge.

After a minute or so on the road to the cellphone towers, look for a trail heading off to the left following the contour of the mountain.

Trail off the left. Looks like a nice trail but didn't follow it. I suspect that it connects back with the main trail.

This looks like it may have been made for cattle but there is little sign of grazing around it.

Of course, this could also be the start of the trail going the other direction.
