Itinerary description
03 giugno 2016

Impressive path in the Majella National Park - in the Orfento Valley (a free entry permission is required, you can collect it at the Visitor Center of Caramanico Terme). The path is hard, for length, slope, presence of felled trees, fords, exposed passages slippery if wet (need experience, training and a "safe step").
The path starts from the hamlet of Santa Croce in Caramanico Terme, after the church on the left there is a small parking (you are in back side of the Park Visitor Center). From the parking start two paths, one on the left (B6 - The Scalelle) will be used for the return, one on the right (B2 towards Ponte del Vallone) follows the left side of the Orfento from above, and then down to the Vallone bridge . Then along the Stone Bridge through “Piscia Giumenta“ suggestive gorge overlooking the river along a narrow (but not too much) passageway on a rock wall jutting out and equipped with a steel handrail (attention it's raining).
From Stone Bridge you can go back following the "S" path, before you reaching a small detour (about 5-10 minutes) for the ruins of the hermitage of S. Onofrio, and then the bridge S. Benedetto and again Ponte del Vallone, here we head towards Caramanico bridge.
The route turns left along the path B6 "the Scalene" which quickly brings in altitude and then to the parking, or you can continue to the Caramanico bridge (the bridge is very high on the river) and back to the parking lot through the village, along the paved road.
