Itinerary description
The views from the top of this loop and heading down through the forest and meadows are beautiful, looking out to the snow-capped mountains way beyond Vail.
This route starts from central Vail, winding up a tarmac road to the trailhead of Spraddle Creek Trail. The trail itself is mainly earth, wide lower down, narrow further up.
In early June there is a little snow higher up to navigate by. There's a couple of streams that need a jump to get across. It was not possible to keep my feet dry getting across them, but the most challenging one is in the last few km, so not too bad.
I hiked this early morning, saw one small mouse and birds. Next day we saw a small brown bear, quite close to me and my workmate, Ronny.
