Itinerary description
Not bad. We were a little worried about this one, all up hill and didn't really know the length. There are buses that will take you up for a fee. We started just below Santa Ana and made the trek up in about an hour. Distance (one way) was about 2.8 km and up about 500 meters. We took a slow a steady approach, the path is completely on a road, almost all of it is made up of paving stones (shape now memorized). It could be a little slippery when wet, Maxini went down once on the return trip down. Ran into some howler monkeys en route and the vistas at the top are fantastic. The summit trails are also great and a 'must do' (see other listings for senterra del crator and senterra del puma).
We were told it could be cold, but we were more than comfortable in shorts and t-shirts. It was cooler and damper at the summit but it felt great after the long climb up. Round trip is definitely doable in a day from Santa Ana and pick one trail (or two if you are young and fit) at the top.
