In the land of landslides and chip shops.
We were in Uttarakhand to do the Nandi Kund trek.
To acclimatize and live, feel the country, we wanted to start with 3 Hindu pilgrimage sites. Nandikund Lake is also a sacred place.
The road to access the various sites is constantly cut by landslides and you can find these little "chip shops" absolutely everywhere.
We are off to Rudranath. We stayed in Sagar in a clean hotel with English toilets and hot "showers". We are on the roadside 100m from the start for Rudranath. We have a view of Sagar and its valley.
Unfortunately, we learn that the temple will be closed. We are a day too late.
It's a steep all day climb on the same mountainside. A lot in the woods and therefore not too exposed to the sun. There are however plenty of clearings and views.
There are at least three watering holes on the climb and two very local restaurants. You can pitch a tent in two places.
The tent accommodations at Panar Bugyal are rustic and few in number: make sure you have room before attacking the climb. You could end up with a lot per tent or even not being able to accommodate.
For us there was no one there and the weather was fine: There isn't really a place to eat if it's raining. These are tents and therefore there are not really sanitary facilities up to our standards.
The site of Panar Bugyal is very beautiful.
