At 12km long, Ullswater is the second largest lake in the Lake District. It averages 3/4 mile wide and has a maximum depth of 205 feet at Howtown. The lake has three distinct bends that make it resemble a dog's paw. The village of Pooley Bridge is on the north side of the lake, Glenridding on the south side, with Howtown about halfway. We first took the boat from Pooley bridge to Howtown with beautiful views of the lake.
