Itinerary description

Hiking one of the big wadis south of the village of Sal leading up to the border with Oman. Lots of bouldering, cliff climbing (nothing really technical but care and attention are needed - not a great place to fall), and wadis leading off in various directions. Should be able to drop down in Oman to the Jungle Hike but the whole thing would take a few days (and a LOAD of water).

Hi, does crossing Oman border required a visa, or it is just someway you can enter to Oman visa free? Thank you

    Hi Ausra,

No - there is no official border crossing but you only enter Oman if you drop down on the other side, and you have to be careful not to 'meet anyone'. If you wish to drop down into the other side (the Jungle Hike) see the hike called 'February Loop', which is long and tiring but covers quite a few KMs in Oman before it returns to the UAE.

Hi David, thank you for your response. I will check your other hike. I have done Leopard Canyon last weekend, looping back through some village next to Oman border. And it was already quite a hike, we got caught by dark, so had to climb down after sunset which was no fun at all :))) Followed the other wikiloc trail that said it was an easy donkey path on the way down which maybe is during the day but tricky to find and follow at night though :)

Yes - coming down by night can be 'tricky', even dangerous when it comes to ledges and dropoffs. Sometimes it is safer just to camp out. But it allows you to get a whole new perspective of the canyons. I love the night times there - eerily quiet and calm. And it has some advantages too - less heat and the sun, especially if you're hiking between May and October. Good luck I've been 'out of action' for some time now!
