Itinerary description
The Turure Cascades River Hike should only be undertaken when the river is low and rain is not forecast, the river channel is narrow in places and could easily flood. Start by the bridge and follow the path on the north-west bank upstream. Then follow the river upstream until the river branches, take the right hand or eastern branch, abundant limestone blocks in the river bed confirms the proximity to the cascades. The Cascades are a wonderful series of carbonate deposits which have formed as carbonate has come out of solution due to evapouration of the spring water as it has been held in minor pools and natural damns across the river. This is a delicate natural feature and should be treated carefully. Carving names into it should be discouraged.
