Itinerary description
Park at the parking area below Thendele camp. After 7 km you will reach the Tugela "tunnel", where overhanging rocks form a 65 m long tunnel. 50m after the tunnel you will see the Tugela Falls, at 940m, the 2nd tallest on earth (newest measurements put it at 980m which if accepted will make it the tallest on earth). You can walk through the tunnel, but on the far side there is a pool with rounded rock sides where you cannot get up. To get to the other side, you have to climb a chain ladder, then up a gully using tree roots and steel rods in the cliff. On the other side of the tunnel you have to climb over a small hill to see the falls. You can get back the same way or by jumping in the pool at the end of the tunnel and walk back through the tunnel. Alternatively, you can climb to the tunnel cave to see the falls. Just before the tunnel to the left there is a wooden ladder which is the start of the tunnel cave path.
