Itinerary description
Tugela Gorge hike. Sadly the chain ladder is broken at the end and you won't be able to complete the last section. Apparently this ladder has been broken for a few years now which is annoying. Ask the rangers about the state of the ladder before staring the walk, as they won't let you know without asking.
The start of the hike is exposed for about 1.5hrs or more depending how fast you are, so plan accordingly with adequate protection. Ensure you bring lots of water if hiking in mid summer. Once you start entering the small gullies you'll find good shade and some streams to cool you down.
I did it in the rainy season (end of Jan) and although the skies were blue and clear when I started, a massive storm formed in the early afternoon (around 3pm). If doing the hike in this season you should aim to finish early afternoon.
Give yourself 5-6 hours to complete the hike. I did it in 4 because I was rushing.
