I have followed this trail  View more

Nice walk from Troulos up into the pine forests and the mountains, with superb views and high elevation, however there are a couple of things you should be aware of. Firstly the route is plotted at just over 12 Kms but we have walked it today and it is closer to 18 kms. Secondly, towards the end of the walk as you climb up a mountain road overlooking Skiathos, the track forks right off the road and starts to descend and is signposted with an official Govt yellow hiking waymark. Some 100 mtrs down this gravel track the way is blocked by metal posts and 2 mtrs high wire fencing, which is partly broken down. We managed to scramble over the fencing but it seems that the land and the track have been taken over by “Sky Sea Resort” who are building villas there. The exit from the site is via an electric gate which fortunately for us was open but it does look like that when the resort is completed and the workers have left, the track will be closed to the public. It’s important to know this as it’s a long way back to an alternative route into Skiathos if you’ve made it this far and your way is blocked because it’s now private property.
