The first 3km of this route are excellent, starting at the village of Póvoa das Leiras, passing over the Inca Trail and then climbing up the mountain to the wind turbines at the highest elevation.
However, after the highest elevation, the trail suddenly goes off-piste, leaving the road and heading downhill over rough ground, not following any marked trail. At the bottom of that valley, the route passes through an area of prickly gorse bushes. The route was not passable without getting scratched up by the gorse. We had to re-trace our steps and go back uphill to rejoin the road. We found an alternate way around, and re-joined the route further along.
