Itinerary description

This is a really lovely hike and not at all hard. I tried for so long to find any decent information on how to hike Tresnjica - and it was especially hard to find information in English, so here it is...

This trail is called 'the old school route', because it follows the route children from the village at the top of the gorge would take to get to the Gornje Tresnjica school at the bottom of the gorge (which is the hike start/end point). The last child graduated five years ago, so the route is no longer used by school kids, but hikers still use it.

The trail is fairly clear and there are hiking markers, although somewhat infrequent and fading. You start at the school, travel on a dirt road past some farms/trout farms etc along the bottom of the gorge, close to the river for some time, before the start of the narrower hiking trail and after some time there is a very manageable ascent to a great view point - the trail meets a dirt road just near the view point, and that road continues up to the village if you want to go there (we didn't).

My phone really struggled to record this hike - the app kept pausing, but it doesn't matter as the trail is clear and it is the same route there and back, so you can follow this trail well enough.

We went in early September - it was very dry and good hiking conditions. I've heard it's more difficult to do this trail in wet weather or when the water in the rivers is high. Be prepared and enjoy - especially the Griffon vultures circling overhead. We saw heaps!

We thought if we went left we would get a good view of the canyon - not really - there are plenty of good views later on. Also people started calling 'ima medvev' (there are bears) as we headed this way - I think it was a joke as the area isn't known for bears, but we came back...
