Itinerary description
📌 Completed my 1st ever compress 23 hours hike with my fast leg hiking friend
Start 🚩 Loji Sungai Geliting (G. Chondong Geliting) and 🔚 end at Empangan Sg Dara (G. Liang)
I was told that Trans Slim - Gunung Tumang Batak is one of the toughest trail in Malaysia. Standard trip for Trans Slim is 4d3n (very santai), 3d2n (normal-slow pace), 2d1n (normal-fast pace), or daypack (doable include some slight run). So we did compress dayhike!! Oh ya, I was the beautiful rose among all the thorns 🤣🤣, 9 men and 1 woman team 😜
Conquered 4️⃣ Peaks
✅Gunung Chondong Geliting (1,820m)
✅Gunung Tumang Batak (2,082m)
✅Gunung Liang West (1,933m)
✅Gunung Liang East (1,934m)
Total distance 34km, Elevation Gain 3200m, Moving time 17 hours+/- (Total time 23 hours)
My difficulty level - 8.5/10 Hard. Train harder before going, and be well prepared in all circumstances.
Flag off at 5.30am
1. Kem Sg Durian⌚8.50am (1st 💦water point)
2. Batu Berkepit ⌚11.40am
3. ⛰️Gunung Chondong Geliting peak ⌚1.10pm
4. Kem Dengkur ⌚ 3.45pm
5. Batu Berkepit ⌚6.10pm
6. ⛰️Gunung Tumang Batak peak ⌚6.45pm
7. Kem Pisang ⌚8.10pm (Last 💦water point)
8. Kem Duit ⌚9.30pm
9. ⛰️Gunung Liang West peak ⌚11.30pm
10. ⛰️Gunung Liang East peak ⌚11.45pm
I underestimated the difficulty of this hike. Thought we could do it under 20 hours. Luckily I was pretty well prepared for this long hour hike, brought 3 powerbanks, 2 headlamps 1 torchlight, lots of food, except not prepared for rain condition. It drizzled for a while at ard 10pm, but thank god that it stopped. Start descending fr Liang peak at 12 midnight, reached Liang trailhead at 4.30am 😱.
Part 1 - (Endurance) Empangan Chondong Geliting to G. Chondong Gelinting 1829m was tough. The 14.5km with EG 1600m trail was very raw, covered by dry leaves and many fallen trees resulting in going off trail a few times. Many thorny stems and leeches too!!
Part 2 - (technical) G. Chondong Geliting to G. Tumang Batak 2082m. A lot of climbing and trail was raw, slippery and covered by broken branches everywhere and with thorny stems too! However, Batu Berkepit which is just 30 mins before TB peak is a must visit spot.
Part 3 - (mentality game) G. Tumang Batak to G. Liang west 1994m. The distance is only about 4km but it seems like forever. Mossy Forest at Liang is most stunning and beautiful. Peak also cooling and has Beirut and beautiful views. Definitely worth the hike.
Part 4 - (Technical) G. Liang to Trailhead Empangan Sg Dara. From peak to Kem 7E was steep and covered by dry leaves. Descending in the dark and slippery, thorny trails slowed us down. After Kem 7E, trail was not as as steep and runnable 🏃♀️🏃♀️
Will I revisit? : Yes for both Liang and Tumang Batak, no for Chondong Geliting. But I will do 2d1n to be able to enjoy nature, take lots of photos, and enjoy beautiful Mossy forest, and no need to rush for time.
This is the only hike that I didn't have the time to stop and take photos (partly also due to my lost selfie stick), and another reason is the men in this hike took more photos than me!!!! 🙄🙄
After hiking 23 hours of trans slim, end result is mesti SLIM 🤣🤣!!!
