Itinerary description
July 2015.
What I did:
From Sofia central, took tram #5, went to ZAPAD bus stop, then took 10.20 Bus to Rila (11Lv). From Rila, took a minibus to the Monastery (2Lv). The return of the minibus was at 15oo.
Started from Rila Monastery, at 15oo local time. The pine forest provides shelter from sun. After 1700m level, the forest dissapears.
I camped at 2400m level, but later learned that that was forbidden.
Got a bit lost just before Ivan Vazov, I believe there was a track somewhere but I missed it. The hut is located at excellent location, very isolated comparing to other huts, and very friendly staff.
I carried 3.5 litres of water, which was more than enough. The first water resource after Rila Monastery is not before 3.5 hours.
On the return, no public transport is available until Saparave Bania, but hitchiking is easy, especially when the place is packed in weekends (or a taxi to Saparave Bania shall cost about 25Lv) . Minibus is provided between Saparave Bania and Duspnitsia (hourly, 1.3Lv). From Duspnitsia, a bus to Sofia is 6Lv (every 2 hours).
I think it could be wise to arrive from north, take the chairlift to 2000m level, than hike towards monastry.
The trails are very well marked most of the times, apart from the 1800-2000metre section at south.
Resources:
A map of huts. The huts are very good organised, and better be used.

Tourist information points of Sofia provide all public transport schedule, and maps (Domino has a good map, spotting the water resources and huts, 1:50000).
