Itinerary description

A picturesque walk around Cape Fonar - the easternmost point of Crimean peninsula. The way goes partially along hilly sea shore, partially on land along rural roads. To get to starting point by public transport from Kerch take bus #18 (direction to Mayak). The trail ends at the same bus stop, so after walking you can return back to Kerch by bus again. Take enough water with you as there are no water sources on the trail. NOTE1: at summer time you can see plenty of dice snakes at the sea shore or in the sea hunting for fish, but do not worry they are not venomous. NOTE2: in grass areas it is possible to meet some ticks, though Kerch is considered as a safe area on tick transmitted deceases, but anyway it's better to check your body from time to time and get rid of any tick before it bites.

At Soviet times this was a sea resort. During Ukrainian years it was ruined. Not sure if it operates nowadays, but anyway at summer some people still drive there because of sandy beach.

World War-2 Memorial in Golubinaya Bay is built on the spot were Soviet troops crossed the strait and started the withdrawal of the German forces from the Crimea. This memorial was built to replace an old one damaged by a landslide (the old monument is still visible on the other side of the beach).
