Itinerary description
We took the ferry from Terre-de-Haute to Terre-de-Bas. The Tourist Office had a nice detailed map of the trails for us.
We opted to take the walk to the Yellow Trail up and return via the Blue Trail heading back to the village of Grand Anse.
We stopped for lunch, then continued walking along the main road (D213) toward Petites Anses. We stopped just before the last downhill to town as we needed to get back to the Port for the ferry.
The hike up the Yellow Trail (Trace des Falaises) was nice and easy... and varied from flat to rocks to grassy to wooded (about 2 hrs.). If you do not like walking up hill or along rocks, you won't like this. Otherwise, it is easy.
NOTE: It was a forest of Mancheoneel Trees, so you must be careful... and not good to do on a rainy day!!!
Along the trail, you have to go through a gate, and over a goat fence... Eventually, you get to a lovely pond (L'Etang) that had more turtles sitting on the logs than you would think possible! Very tranquil. This is where the path for the Blue Trail (Trace du dessus de l'Etang) begins.
The Blue Trail took us back to the village (about 1 hr.) where we stopped for lunch... (leaving the Wikiloc on!)... then... continued walking as already mentioned (1 hr. to beginning of town + 1 hr. back to Port).
We will return again to do the other paths.
The island is very beautiful, quiet, and manicured. Taxis are available to transport you from Petites Anses to Grand Anse if necessary.
Also important to know: the restaurants request a 2 hour notice/reservation before you come for lunch. They cook to order!
Enjoy!!!
