Itinerary description
Trchkan (Թռչկան) is a marvelous waterfall near Chichkan river ( Չիչկան գետ ) in Shirak province, Armenia.
Trchkan is the highest fall in Armenia (23 m) and if you are fond of the falls, this is a must visit spot for you here!
~~~ What you should know about this trail ?~~~
---You start hiking from the village of Sarapat ( Սարապատ ).
After 10 minutes of hiking the road becomes impassable for the cars (not 4x4 vehicles), and that’s the reason we hike the fall from here.
--- Main path of the route you follow the geep gravel road and only the last part to the fall is you cross the bridge and a river.
--- This is a blazed trail of the fall and it’s quite easy to follow without a guide. It’s also kids friendly. The only thing that I don’t like here is that you hike the whole trail under the rays of the sun, there are not any shady spots on the way.
--- In summertime it's a very common place for locals.
If you plan to hike there during that period, avoid weekends if you are not into crowded spots and loud music :)
--- During your hike you pass a small part of the river in one-two spots,
It’s OK in summer and very freezing in winter 🙂
--- If you are a lazybone and want to skip hiking and get there by off-road vehicle, you can drive to Trchkan both from Shirakamut village and from Sarapat as well.
--- SEASON:
Best season for the fall starts from April and lasts till September, it’s very watery and stunning in May, June, would be the best for swimming in July and August and very attractive during severe winters (when it gets fully frozen).
