Itinerary description
On our 5th day, we finally had a good weather with sunshine for the whole day. We left Orestes Hütte and followed the 6B trail. Soon, we were on a dirt car road. Instead of going down to Gabiet, we continued south with a small ascent and we joined the TMR route going up under the cable cars. Here the ascent is not scenic at all, with the cable cars and ski slopes around you. We continued our way up and we made a high turn to the col because the lower shortcut was icy. One we reached the Col d'Olen, the view changed completely and the sceneries of Valsesia and Po valleys are breathtaking. At this time of the year, there was about 20 cm of snow at the col and the trail around the col was icy and slippery in the morning. Just under the Col, you will encounter a closed refuge (Rifugio Citta di Vigevano). Turn right and go down on a zigzag trail to an intersection that shows the way to Passo Foric. The trail to Passo Foric is risky at some parts and there are fixed ropes for more safety especially in snowy and icy conditions. In bad weather, i do not recommend this path, instead go directly down into the valley to Alagna. Arrived at Passo Foric (2432 m), more beautiful sceneries will open up while you are going down. You will go through many beautiful hamlets reflecting the Walser culture. The descent to Alagna seem to be endless with more than 1700 m descent. After a good lunch in Alagna, we continued our walk next to the river and we finished our day with a 300 m climb to Rifugio Pastore. Food is great there. We had a good sleep before our climb to Colle del Turlo on the 6th day.
