Itinerary description
Leave the Lester Centre and travel Wantage Rd, either walking or driving. If driving, make sure it is an off-road or 4x4 type vehicle as the road is rough! At about 8.5km up Mt Hays road there is yellow and orange flagging tape that marks the entrance of the trail over to Tall Trees.
Be prepared to get your feet wet and muddy. The alpine bog is always wet. Avoid walking on the boardwalks as they are old, very slippery and are merely for marking path direction at this point. There are lots of pink flagging to follow but sometimes they are spaced a bit far apart so look carefully. There is a bit of clambering over deadfall and slippery mucky areas so appropriate footwear is a must.
If you want to experience a beautiful but wild area of Northwestern BC then this is a great hike but keep in mind it is wild. The trail is not maintained and if you are inexperienced in following loosely marked trails then this may not be for you. If you are willing to give it a try, you will not be disappointed. The views are stellar!
Once you reach the Tall Trees trail, the path down to the parking lot is steep but clearly made. You will need a vehicle to get you back to the Lester Centre as it is about 5km away.
