The trail was closed for crossing as volcanic activity started in August 2012 had not quieted. This route went to the Red Crater and returned. We were not the least disappointed. The first part, in the valley was covered in lovely low growing, flowering ground covers, heather and pampas grasses. As we climbed the volcanic landscape asserted, lava formations and stunning views. The wind on the upper ridges lowered the apparent temperature by at least 20 degrees. Bring layers and a camera!
