From Mangatepopo carpark to Ketetahi.
Absolutely overcrowded
Road marked throughout the journey with kilometer signs and time markers.
Public services every 3kms.
There are several bus services for round trip in all hostels and campsites in the area for about 40NZD.
It is difficult to do with your own car because the parking is limited to 4h, so if someone takes us you will have to stay without making the route and pick us up at the end.
The hardest part of the route may be the weather. It is important to be well prepared and pay attention to the forecasts. I recommend the website of www.mountain-forecast.com. With rain and fog it can be really dangerous.
In spite of all of the above, even considering that I had never made a route so full of people, it's worth it. It crosses several of the most beautiful landscapes of New Zealand, volcanoes, lakes of iimpresionante color and active fumaroles.
