Itinerary description
Najigram Tokar Dara Stupa:
The Buddhist site of Tokar-dara is situated about 5 km on the south of Barikot on the way to Karakar pass and lies about 1 km from the modern village of Najigram at the mouth of a small picturesque valley. Situated about three miles south of the city of Barikot (formerly known as Bazira), the ancient site was constructed when Buddhism flourished in the region between the 1st and 3rd centuries. The stupa forms part of a complex boasting a number of Buddhist monuments, including a monastery, an assembly hall, a cave, an aqueduct, and residential settlements, all considered to be of significant historic value.
Abba Sahib Cheena:
Abba Sahib Cheena is located approximately 6 kilometres from Barikot on Barikot-Buner road. One must take a right turn a little off the Najigram village road, leading to the shrine of Mashoom Shaheed to reach the Site. Here, a water stream descending from Mount Sur-Ghar leads right into the Mandara nullah.
As it continues, the valley narrows within the steep mountains slope, partly covered by pine tree (unfortunately now sparse as many have been felled). This led to the central zone of the great monumental Buddhist complex of Abba Sahib Cheena dating back to 1st Century A.D. The site contains four main stupa, numerous votive stupas, chapels and monastic complex
