Itinerary description

you can find details about the route on jurnaldedrumetii.ro

Ídi, also spelled Idhi, Idi, Ida, or Idha (Doric Greek: “Timber Tree”), Modern Greek Psíloreítis, mountain riddled with caves, west-central Crete (Modern Greek: Kríti), in the nomós (department) of Réthímnon, southern Greece. One of Ídi’s two peaks, Timios Stavros, at 8,058 feet (2,456 m), is Crete’s highest mountain. According to one legend Zeus was reared in the Ídiean cave on the peak’s scrub-covered slopes. The well-known Kamares wares (Minoan polychrome pottery) are named for Kameres cave, where they were discovered. The limestone mass of Ídi acts as a large subterranean reservoir, supplying water to the springs of the surrounding villages, which can thereby practice year-round agriculture, including the raising of olives, citrus fruits, vegetables, wine grapes, barley, oats, and wheat. Goats and sheep are also raised on Ídi’s slopes.

Evăr no'!

I have followed this trail  View more

This is a great trekking. I made it in september 30 2023. It's not easy because it's 9 to 10km ascending 900m and walking in loose rocks. And It's very exposed to the sun and the wind. But people with some experience in trekking and/or in good fitness will love to hike this mountain!

Thanks for the review. For us it was an easy route, without exposed or dangerous areas. The route is particularly spectacular and the views from the top are colossal. You can find more details and photos on jurnaldedrumetii.ro (use google translate)
