Itinerary description

5-day, 45-mile hike through some of the finest scenery in North Cascades National Park. We started at the Thunder Creek trailhead at Colonial Creek Campground and walked 10 miles up the creek to Junction Camp. Quite scenic place. On Day 2 we hiked 9 miles to Thunder Basin Hiker Camp, fording the creek near Thunder Basin Stock Camp. The hiker camp was mostly under snow. On Day 3 we crossed Park Creek Pass, which was mostly snow-covered. Microspikes were essential, and ice axes were advisable. We dropped 4000 ft to Park Creek Camp, which is a nice place. Day 4 we hiked up the Stehekin River to Basin Creek Camp. Trail very brushy in places. Day 5 we hiked to the head of the valley, crossing two rockslides that had obliterated the trail, and making a sketchy ford of Doubtful Creek. We hit snow at about 4600 ft, and were in snow most of the way to Cascade Pass. From the top of the pass, the route through the snow was well-beaten by hikers until we reached bare ground.
