Itinerary description
Quite a lot of trails start from the village Nderlysa few kilometres downstream from Theth. One can either follow the car road (see separate track) or walk through the village, passed the waterfall and Grunas Canyon before arriving at the old bridlge path that was the only connection before the construction of the road that connects Theth to the other villages of Shala.
This walk can be nicely combined with the Thethi Village Walk (see separate trail), that takes in most major sights.
The track starts at the car bridge, passes school, hospital and stays next to the river where you can visit the old corn mill. Continuing down the river you will pass a stream next to a destroyed bridge, then turn up and climb the little plateau, few houses are located here.
You walk passed some meadows towards the junction for waterfall and canyon but keep walking ahead. The small bridge you cross marks the border of the village, behind it the bridle path descends and you stick again to the riverbed, crossing every now and then talus from the creeks that rush down the steep mountains on your left on few days of a year with enormous power. Watch your step, the walk is rated easy but by far not to be compared to the meaning of an easy trail in Central European Alps.
A ruin resembling a spring board marks the remains of the oldest bridge in Shala. Few years ago people crossed the river at this point, nowadays one has to continue lot further and use the car bridge near Nderlysa and therefore misses the hydropower-plant. The interested hiker can instead of turning left after the bridge follow the road a bit upstream again to have a look at the station. Usually a weekly shift of two is around to maintain the plant.
From this junction it's not much further to Nderlysa. Walking through the village can be tricky and therefore the recorded trail follows the car track that leads to Dede's place.
Stay overnight, enjoy a meal or continue further to your preferred destination.
Walking time should be no more than 3h downstream, add one more hour for the way up. Start early to avoid heat of the day during summer or, if the sun turns out to be out to fierce, walk back on the road in the shade that's around after noon.
