The first is about 8 km and the Ull Blau about 5 km if you arrive in Nedërlysaj by car. The additional 5 or 6 km to the more than 19 km of the route are of the path that runs along the left bank of the river, as opposed to the one used by the vehicles that go along the right bank.
If you don't have a vehicle, it's easy to rent one in Theth to get you closer to the start of the Ull Blau route.
In any case, and if you have the time, I think it's worth doing the entire route as we propose. On almost the entire route we walk next to the Thethit River or the Përroi Zi which accompany us for a large part of the route. If you do it in the summer and it's hot, you will find long sections that pass in the shade of the forest as well as several cafes where you can stop for a drink and refresh yourself or at the river itself, from which you will never be too far.
This will be a good option if you can't do the popular Theth Valbona traverse or face tougher challenges than those that abound in the area.
I have decided to edit the route to add the visit to the church and the Kulla and since they were on a different day the information about the time used does not appear in Wikiloc.
We walked calmly stopping at the waterfall, the canyon, the bars of Nedërlysaj where we will eat something and the Ull Blau where we will take a bath. This takes us all day leaving early and coming back still with the sun shining, estimate 8 or 9 hours.
Waypoints
Kulla de Theth
Of this building that is more than four hundred years old and is currently a museum, the most interesting thing is neither the building nor what it houses. The real interest lies in its former function. It is a tower of seclusion where the one who had spilled someone's blood was locked up. The code of honor required the relatives of the deceased to take revenge on the murderer or his baron relatives up to the third degree of kinship. It was about the gjakmarrja (taking the blood) which was part of the Kanun, which was the law by which in ancient times this area was governed, both in legal and moral aspects.
Cascada de Grunas
Grunas Falls is one of Theth's most popular and easily accessible destinations. The last section involves a small climb accessible for children. It is a water fall of about 25 m that, like all waterfalls, depending on the time of year, will be more or less spectacular. It's so popular that a poster advertises "Free Wifi" paid for by "nosekin" trademark. In any case, a good place to cool off and enjoy the views.
Canyó de Grunas
Over the Grunas Canyon we find a wooden bridge that, if we cross, takes us to the path that joins Theth and Nderlysaj. From this bridge we can see the enclosed waters of the Thethit River. The Canyon is about 2 km long and about 60 m deep. Normally, the waters of the river are transparent, but in this case the road improvement works between Theth and Nedërlysaj make it muddy as there is machinery removing the banks of the river.
Nedërlysaj
Nedërlysaj are four houses, some of them accommodation, and some vegetable gardens. Currently, to connect Theth and Nedërlysaj by vehicle, it is preferable to do so with an all-terrain vehicle due to the poor condition of the road. This seems to have its days numbered as improvement work is being carried out on this stretch of road. When this becomes a reality, this enclave runs the risk of following the path of Theth where there is a tourist boom that, if not controlled, could put this beautiful Valley at risk.
Aparcament
Before crossing the Përroi Zi, the stream that forms the Ull Blau, we find the place where the vehicles arrive and from where the route to the Ull Blau starts. The route we propose is long enough and we haven't actually found many people who would do the whole route. The most common way to visit Ull Blau is to get here by car and walk only this section up Përroi Zi. In this case the return route is about 5 km in total. If you don't have a vehicle, it's easy to rent one in Theth and arrange a time for him to pick us up again.
Pont
The path passes between bars and climbs to a wooden bridge that crosses a deep, albeit short, stone canyon. From the bridge we can see the bottom of the canyon that the water has cut into the stone and that in some places it is a beautiful rose color. There are also very good views from here.
Aparcament
Some vehicles come up here where there is room for a couple of cars. They do it on a wider path that does not go through the bars. The only reason I can see to get here by vehicle would be if we had some physical problem and we did it to shorten the route as much as possible. From here the path turns into a trail.
Ull Blau
The Blue Eye is a beautiful pool of turquoise blue water that reminds us of the waters of the Caribbean. Don't be fooled, the temperature of the water keeps visitors on its shores and those who dare to jump out of the water at the speed of light. It is a very popular place and it is very crowded. In the upper part, where you can climb up some wooden stairs, there are some bars that serve drinks and some food. In Albania you can find two Blue Eyes, this one and another much further south on the road between Saranda and Gjirokaster. Despite sharing the name and the fact that both are very visited, this one is more interesting in my opinion. At the moment you can only access here by a path in a beautiful walk through a still natural and wild environment. In the other, you have to leave the vehicle in a parking lot and walk along an asphalted path accompanied by crowds that are reminiscent of those we find on the beaches.
Theth
Theth is a rather chaotic town nestled in a beautiful valley. There is no center proper, the houses are scattered along the unpaved road that runs parallel to the river. There are a lot of houses converted into accommodation and there are also hotels and campsites as well as some restaurants and a small supermarket. Campervans are allowed in the garden of many houses as well as in the campsite or car park. At the time of the visit, the access road is already in good condition and it seems that the village is in the process of improving its services. You can also find an information center where they talk about angles and can provide information about bus schedules, routes, fauna, flora, etc.
