Itinerary description
Nice walk in the heart of Thetford Forest.
The Beech and Fir Trails are two walking loops that start and finish at High Lodge. The route that I am describing links both of them and starts in a different location avoiding car park fees.
The car can be parked at Warren Lodge. Warren Lodge used to be the accomodation for the rabbit farm's warden. Rabbits were farmed on those lands for their fur and meet since the 13th century.
Once you leave the tower behind, you need to turn right and follow the signs for the Beech Trail (pink arrows). The path is very well indicated and is very easy to walk on.
After few turns you get to the High Lodge. This is the comercial area of Thetford Forest. There are toilets, caffes, BBQs, bycicle hiring places and other amenities. This place gets very busy in good weather days. From High Lodge the route follows the Fir Trail (yellow signs) and returns to the car crossing some beautiful sceneries.
If you are following my GPS file, there is a moment, where I got distracted and followed the wrong path. Ideally I should have followed the Beech Trail sign. I am marking where this was with a waypoint so you can avoid the mistake.
Enjoy!
